Caramel Flan Recipe
Caramel Flan
If you're ever looking for a simple but impressive dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, a gorgeous flan is the way to go. It has great colour to it and fails to disappoint anyone. It's easy to make and requires few ingredients. One of the few desserts that don't require heavy cream!
Ingredients:
- CARAMEL:
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups of milk
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 320 degrees Fahrenheit
- In a saucepan, whisk together your sugar and water until blended. Turn the stove on to medium to high heat. Allow for the mixture to start bubbling. DO NOT whisk the caramel while it's boiling. Make sure to watch it closely so it doesn't burn.
- As the caramel mixture begins to gain colour, swirl the pan and take it off the heat when it reaches a golden colour. Quickly pour it into your prepared containers and swirl to coat the base.
- In a blender, crack four eggs and blend them along with your vanilla extract, sugar and salt. Make sure the mixture is smooth before adding your milk. Afterwards, blend everything together.
- Pour your pudding mixture into the containers with the caramel base.
- Place your flan containers into a deep baking dish. Fill the dish up halfway with boiling water. Place your dish into the oven and bake for 40-45 mins.
- To check if your flan is done do a toothpick test. If it comes back slightly moist but not wet and the flan jiggles it's ready to be taken out. Set it aside and let it cool for 10-15 mins.
- Refrigerate your flan for at least 2 hours before serving. When you're ready to serve it, take a knife and trace it along the rim of the container. Place your serving plate on top and flip the container. Gently tap on the top to make the flan come out with ease. And finally, enjoy!
