Recipe: Black Forest Oats

 

Black Forest Oats 

Whether I'm in a rush or I'm just craving a sweet breakfast, these dark and creamy yet crunchy oats are the perfect option. The berries and oats are packed with anti-oxidants making this recipe a healthy yet satisfying choice.



    Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats 
  • 2 tbsps chia seeds 
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder 
  • 1 tsp cinnamon 
  • 1/2 cup almond or oat milk 
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract 
  • 1/2 cup frozen berries or cherries 
  • 1 tbsp nut butter 
  • Almond slices (for garnish) 

    Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan add your oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, cinnamon, plant-based milk, sweetener and vanilla extract. On medium heat, stir these ingredients until you achieve a gentle simmer. 
  2. Add your mixed berries or cherries to the mixture and fold so the heat defrosts them and they release colour. 
  3. After most of the liquid has simmered out, turn off the heat and transfer to a bowl. 
  4. Add your nut butter on top along with your almond slices. Do not skip this step, it goes a long way. 
  5. Enjoy !!!
