Recipe: Black Forest Oats
Black Forest Oats
Whether I'm in a rush or I'm just craving a sweet breakfast, these dark and creamy yet crunchy oats are the perfect option. The berries and oats are packed with anti-oxidants making this recipe a healthy yet satisfying choice.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 2 tbsps chia seeds
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup almond or oat milk
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup frozen berries or cherries
- 1 tbsp nut butter
- Almond slices (for garnish)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan add your oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, cinnamon, plant-based milk, sweetener and vanilla extract. On medium heat, stir these ingredients until you achieve a gentle simmer.
- Add your mixed berries or cherries to the mixture and fold so the heat defrosts them and they release colour.
- After most of the liquid has simmered out, turn off the heat and transfer to a bowl.
- Add your nut butter on top along with your almond slices. Do not skip this step, it goes a long way.
